This page is dedicated to your questions. I will do my best to give you useful answers to your questions, but some situations are too complicated to address with a short question. If you live outside the state of Maine my answers will be even more general.

Hello Srikant Panda!
I am glad you found my neglected blog interesting enough to make a comment.
I do not have much occasion to use GPS units here in Maine. As you may know, Maine has many forests and the trees block the signal so we cannot get a good satellite fix. This is because the radio waves bounce around the trees and the canopy making it impossible to calculate a solution. When I do use a GPS system here it is to perform large surveys where I create traverse controls in areas that I am interested in and convert everything to a 2D coordinate system.
One thing that I see more and more is people using hand-held GPS units to record the coordinates of a boundary corner and using this information to create a local map of their property. These hand-held units are only accurate to within 10m but people put their trust in them as though they were absolutely correct in their location. I use hand-held units only when I am scouting out locations and to find my way out of the woods. I always bring a compass also because if the batteries run out I can be very lost.
